How Sisterhood of Hip Hop Season 3 Episode 6 is Changing the Game
It’s no secret that the hip hop industry has long been a male-dominated sphere. However, with the rise of female rappers such as Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, women are finally starting to break through and carve out their own space in this world.
Enter Sisterhood of Hip Hop, a show which follows five up-and-coming female rappers – Brianna Perry, Diamond, Siya, Nyemiah Supreme, and Bia – as they navigate the ups and downs of the music industry. Now in its third season, Sisterhood of Hip Hop has become more than just an entertaining reality TV show; it’s also changing the game when it comes to representation for women in rap.
In Season 3 Episode 6 (titled “Straight Outta Queens”), we see Siya struggle with her sexuality and feeling like she doesn’t fit into traditional gender roles within hip hop culture. This raw vulnerability is refreshing to see on television and helps break down stereotypes about masculinity in rap.
But it’s not just about narrative representation either. In this episode, Diamond breaks new ground by becoming CEO of her own record label called Black Mozart Entertainment. This move gives her full creative control over her music career while also paving the way for other women to start taking charge behind-the-scenes in an industry still largely run by men.
Similarly significant is Nyemiah Supreme’s continued success as both a rapper and fashion designer. Seeing talented women excel across multiple facets of entertainment serves as proof that there is room for diversity beyond what mainstream media has traditionally deemed acceptable.
Of course, none of these achievements negate some very real challenges still faced by female artists in hip hop today: sexism continues to rear its ugly head both overtly (such as sexist comments about Nicki Minaj) and covertly (like gatekeeping). But highlighting instances where progress is being made – even if it may seem incremental at times – can be incredibly powerful.
Sisterhood of Hip Hop is helping to blaze a trail that wasn’t there before. By portraying women as multifaceted and complex, rather than simply sexual objects or stereotypes, the show provides a platform for female artists to finally tell their own stories on their terms.
So if you’re looking for some empowering television that’s also entertaining as hell, look no further than Sisterhood of Hip Hop Season 3 Episode 6 – it just might inspire you to start your own record label (or at least rap in the shower).
